MEET YOUR TEACHERS!

Ms. Barquin

Hi, I'm Ms. Barquin. I grew up north of Westchester county in Mahopac, NY. I currently live in Manhattan. I attended Syracuse University as a dual major in English Textual Studies and Secondary Education. I was a Renee Crown scholar with a focus in Victorian Literature and Feminism. Currently, I attend Hunter College where I'm enrolled in the TESOL graduate program. I've always been passionate about English language arts and teaching. I hope to eventually achieve a masters in both TESOL and Special Education. In addition, I enjoy Bikram yoga, kickboxing, reading, writing, seeing plays, and traveling.

Hello All,

I'm excited to be a part of your 7th Grade experience.  I have taught most of you in 6th Grade Math and am excited to begin this new "chapter" in ELA.

A little about me....

I'm an artist at heart and I enjoy cooking and baking as well which helps especially coming from a large family!

What's my goal?

This year I hope to be a pivotal force in helping you become stronger and proud of your academic efforts.

Mission Statement

Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School provides our Scholars with a nurturing and challenging educational experience to develop their abilities and address the health and economic disparities in our community. Upon graduation our Scholars will be prepared for the highest levels of college achievement, gainful employment as certified health care professionals, and a commitment to serve others as they pursue rewarding lives and respected careers for themselves.

Our Philosophy

The classroom is a living and thriving community--everyone, from the principal to the students and parents has to work to contribute to and maintain a positive atmosphere. Everyone in the classroom contributes as a student, teacher, and thinker. Teachers learn from students as much as they learn from teachers. At HSS we respect each person's thoughts and feelings in the classroom--students, teachers and parents.
